My 2017 Undergrad Thesis on AGI (Artificial General Intelligence)
In 2015, I declared my major in philosophy. A big reason why is because I was interested in artificial intelligence and the philosophical implications of artificial “minds” on society. I pondered on questions such as “What is intelligence?” “What is knowledge?” and “What does it mean to be human?”. Ironically, those questions are more relevant than ever in the new age of AI. And for that, it seems fitting to post my paper. I hope you enjoy it!
Summary,
Efficient Artificial Intelligence and Effective Human Intelligence
In this essay, I argue that the terminology of ‘strong AI’ and ‘weak AI’ can often be misleading. Rather than thinking of artificial intelligence as ‘strong AI’ or ‘weak AI’, we ought to more often refer to the term ‘machine learning’ and use it in contexts of ‘efficient intelligence’ and ‘effective intelligence.’ I will first show that these two types of intelligence can be acquired by humans but that through machine learning, humans can leverage efficient intelligence, and that with the aid of humans, machines can leverage effective intelligence. The second part of my paper…
